We were quite astonished with the superficiality of your programme shown on BBC2 on Saturday 5th August 2000 under the title "The final battle of Yugoslavia".
Especially considering the fact that we spent considerable amount of our time in spring this year trying to get the truth and the real information about the situation with the Orthodox Church in Montenegro across to the producer of this programme Mr. Frank Smith who on numerous occasions convinced us that his main concern was to present the facts. Mr. Phil Rees never spoke to His Grace Orthodox Metropolitan of Montenegro Amfilohije. Actually, he never saw him.
The end result, however, is rather sad and I would have thought embarrassing for an old and respectable News Company as the BBC. You could have at least checked the historical background of this issue and avoided speading complete lies and nonsense or checked many of the available proofs which show beyond any reasonable doubt that Mr. Dedeic and his "clergy" are a non-entity in the Orthodox Church; that they are unrecognized by any of the Orthodox Churches and that they have been anathematized not by our Metropolitan Amfilohije (as you suggest) but by The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I as well as The Patriarch of Moscow and the Whole of Russia Alexei II and all other leaders of the Autocephalous Orthodox Churches.
Hoping that all this was done unintentionally, out of ignorance and in an attempt to try and fulfill the simplified, "black and white", tailor made patterns of reporting that have become the unfortunate landmark of the British TV News coverage of former Yugoslavia I'm sending you as an attachment a report made by the American " Rockford Institute for International Studies" about the "Church situation in Montenegro".
Kind Regards
hierodeacon Amvrosije
